MedCan Summit launches medical cannabis webinar series

New Zealand's medical cannabis summit, MedCan, is launching a new webinar series featuring leading experts, scientists, clinicians, entrepreneurs, investors, policy makers and thought-leaders who will share first-hand insight to keep you up-to-date with the world of cannabis medicine, as we build towards the postponed MedCan 2020.

This series is exclusively for existing MedCan Summit delegates, with each of the webinars focussed on one of our three conference streams: medicine, science or industry.

The MedCan Webinar series presents an additional opportunity for our existing delegates to hear from our world-class MedCan Summit speakers before they present at the postponed Summit, dates coming soon.

The webinars will keep you informed about developments in this new industry.

This event series comes at a pivotal moment, as New Zealand’s Medicinal Cannabis Scheme was enacted, just 3 weeks ago, on the 1st of April. It's exciting to finally see our nascent industry poised to deliver for the thousands of patients here, and around the world, who will benefit from greater access to quality, New Zealand-made medicinal cannabis.

However, these are also extremely challenging times. Covid-19 not only caused the postponement of the near-sold out MedCan 2020 Summit at SkyCity Convention Centre, but is inflicting far greater impact on our industry.

Both here and abroad, healthcare workers have been drawn into the response to this pandemic, putting their own health – and in some cases their lives – on the line.

The cannabis industry, which was grappling with a global market correction just before Covid-19, is now facing reduced valuations and retrenchment. Locally, the Medicinal Cannabis Scheme’s enactment passed quietly by without the fanfare of earlier milestone. Capital markets are constricted. Building works have been paused, along with access to our facilities.

It may not be the start we had anticipated, but if we operate smartly over the next few months, and spend time to build our knowledge through initiatives like MedCan, then we’ll all emerge stronger, and better prepared to compete on the world stage.

Paul Manning, CEO of Foundation Sponosr, helius, said "At Helius we have a clear purpose that drives everything we do: We exist to unleash the extraordinary potential of cannabis to improve quality of life. It’s because of our purpose that we invested in MedCan".

"We are standing on the precipice of a new industry; one that will deliver much-needed economic and social value, in equal measure".
